WSET Mk3 -5 machines are a complete closed loop tension feed system. Designed for the feeding and tensioning of sensitive wires or textiles from drums up to Din 800 and 500kg.

the Mk3 version of the machine has been specifically developed for superconductive wires. The machine is of a modular construction and consists of three main assemblies, the trackway, tension housing and drum platform.

The trackway supports the platform and tension housing and allows the platform to power (via rollers and gear motor) in parallel with the winding machine travis. Thus feeding the wire between the tension housing and winding machine as straight as possible.

The drum platform runs along the trackway and carries the wire drum, drum drive, rewind travis, traction gear and tension housing. The platform also houses the machine control and drive units.

The tension housing is mounted on the platform via linear bearings and has its own wind and rewind travis equipment, to maintain alignment between the drum and tension housing. The tension housing incorporates the tension drive unit and load cell equipment as well as the drum drive encoder.

Once the drum is installed and the wire threaded through the system, the operator selects the tension required using thumb wheel potentiometer and LED unit. The machine will tension the wire between +/- 10% of the set tension. The actual wire tension being displayed at all times on the LED screen.
